what to expect

We offer a variety of ride types for both Standard and Nitro members. These range from casual coffee and donut Zone 2 rides, to intense race-paced sprint rides.

Each ride is hosted by a Ride Leader who will guide the group through the club values, the route, safety reminders, and key segment attempts.

About our weekly rides

 Throughout the week, we feature different organized rides, varying in intensity and skill level. Knowing a couple power metrics is a great first start in understanding which rides you'll enjoy most: FTP (Functional Threshold Power - held over a 20 minute effort) and Power-to-Weight Ratios (Watts / Kilograms).

If you don’t know those measurements, that’s OK too! We want to get to know you and can help determine your riding level to ensure you get the most out of the group rides, as well as to set you up with the right amount of work to be at the level you wish to be at. Meet & Greet rides are a great way to start. One of our Ride Leaders can then help advise which weekly rides to attend.

All our rides start strictly at the start time. Please arrive at least 5-10 min early to hear our pre-ride debriefs.

    SUMMER: APRIL TO SEPTEMBER

    Standard: 3 days per week outside + 1 day per week indoors

    Nitro: 9 days per week outside + 2-3 days per week indoors

    Throughout the season there will be club events, socials, and team race sign-ups.

    All members must start with a Meet & Greet ride, unless approved by a Ride Leader.

    WINTER: OCTOBER TO MARCH

    Standard: 1 day per week outside (pending weather conditions) + 1 day per week indoors

    Nitro: 1-3 days per week outside (pending weather conditions) + 2-3 day per week indoors.

    Throughout the winter season there will be indoor challenges, socials, and workshops.

    All members must start with Meet & Greet day (subject to weather), unless approved by a Ride Leader.

    MONDAY - INDOOR TRAINING OR RECOVERY

    Join online on Zwift and start your week off right - whether it's workout, Alpe du Zwift attempt, or a Crit, join the team in your pain cave and get it done.

    TUESDAY MORNING - HORSESHOE BAY

    Tier: Nitro

    Join us for our NEWEST addition to the weekly ride lineup! New route via Sharons Rd with a killer climb and a technical descent. Finishing at Isetta for coffee.

    WEDNESDAY MORNING - GLENLYON CRIT DRILLS

    Tier: Nitro

    Hump day never felt so spicy. A new club favourite where we do 2 warm up laps around Glenlyon followed by a 5 lap criterium race! Breakfast and coffee to follow.

    THURSDAY MORNING - CLIMBING CLINIC

    Rise & Grind! Challenge your legs with a spicy climbing effort, followed by a coffee and pastry reward!

    - Ride time: 90 minutes (approx)

    THURSDAY AFTERNOON - UBC LOOP

    Tier: Nitro

    Finish the day with a sweat and prepare the legs for the weekend fun ahead. This is a zone 3-4 ride with paceline practice.

    - Start time: 5:30 PM 

    - Ride time: 90 minutes (approx)

    FRIDAY MORNING - MEET & GREET

    Tier: Standard

    This ride is dedicated to all new members and new folks who are interested in learning more about the club - it's a chance to explore the club, learn the ride style, and grab a coffee after a quick ride around Stanley Park.

    - Zone: 1-2

    - Start time: 6:00 AM

    - Ride time: 90 minutes (approx)

    FRIDAY AFTERNOON - STANLEY PARK LOOP

    Tier: Standard

    Nothing like ending the long work week with a rip around SP with the crew. Ride into the sunset and finish off with drinks.

    SATURDAY MORNING - NITRO RACE TRAINING (ALTERNATING)

    Tier: Nitro

    Our fastest and most intense ride. This one is all about speed with constant PR attempts. The paceline is tight and trust is needed between riders to keep everyone safe. Reach out to Jon Li for an invite!

    SATURDAY - RICHMOND ENDURANCE

    Tier: Nitro

    Dial in your long game with this endurance focused ride around Richmond. This ride starts with coffee with the Circuit Race crew. Feel good vibes all around! And yes, folks double-up rides for an extra long morning.

    SUNDAY ALL-DAY - ADVENTURE DAY

    Tier: Nitro

    Join our long day rides on Sunday - we go on epic journeys with the crew. These can be destination or milestone focused.

    - Start time: 6:30 AM

    - Ride time: TBD (typically 2-5 hours)

    SPECIAL EVENTS - DATE TBD

    Stay tuned for our epic rides - these include rides like Fort Langley, Triple Crown, and Harrison Hot Springs.

    MEMBERSHIP REQUIRES A
    CYCLE BC LICENCE

    As group rides can often be in a fast paceline, there is additional risk of injury to riders, and to the public.

    For this reason, TLD requires ALL members to hold a valid annual Cycle BC license for riding.

    The exception is if you are just joining us for 1-2 Meet & Greet rides. If you're just joining for up to 2 Meet & Greet rides, please fill out the Cycle BC Waiver here.

    Not sure which license
    to apply for?

    If you are joining TLD only for group rides mainly and fondo rides or TLD events, then a"Cycling for All"membership should be sufficient. If you plan to compete in more sanctioned races in the year, including criterium racing in Cat 4 and up, then a"Provincial Race License"is more recommended.
